People often pronounce Pattaya differently. 

I say "Pattiya" while others give it a "long aaa" and say "Pattaaya".

Who's right and who's wrong? Well nobody really as its all down to phonetics. 

The names we use to describe the areas of Pattaya are just to help us non-Thais get around.

Thais never wrote "Jomtien".

They have their own word for this beach area to the south of Pattaya.

I've seen signs for Chomtien and Chom Thien too; all for our benefit and devised by the Thais.

The hill between Pattaya and Jomtien; is it Pratumnak or Phratamnak?

Is Bangsaray, Bang Sare, Bang Sa-Re or Bangsare?

Is Wong Amat, Wongamat or Wongamart? 

Is it potato or potato; or tomato or tomato?

Who knows? 

All we know is that we all enjoy Pattaya!
